Destruct & Ideology - The I.D (Album Review)

Destruct (www.destructmusic.com)
is a 24 year old rapper situated in Los Angeles.
With a Chilean father and a Brazilian Mother.
Destruct is proud of his Brazilian roots, and speaks fluent Portugese.
At his young age he's a well rounded rap artist, with a good choice in beats and producers to surround himself with. Working closely with talented EQ. And having done tracks with Kev Brown.

Ideology
A Native american originally from a crew called Bent Vinyl as this being Ideology’s debut, and a three year in the making long project, he shows edge and equivalent skills when it comes to Destruct, all though the experience as a recording artist shines through on Destructs Vocal Control and Rhyming Schemes.
Production by well renowned, Vherbal of Anno Domini Beats
Cuts by DJ Lime Green (http://thisisdjlimegreen.blogspot.no/)

In the words of Destruct on what this album has meant to them as artists:

3years in the makin cuz of life catchin up wit everybody
it def is a step forward stylewise.
production is a more vintage sound but refined with our modern day flows
There is more on the way from me and ideology together as well as on a solo effort.

The I.D

1. Ready For War
First track is a joint called "Ready for war"
With raw chaotic cuts mixed with sound effects, and a sample based orchestral theme beat. (What I usually expect from Anno Domini beats, but always well done)
A short intro for what you're about to witness, as the vocal sample emplies "the raw shit"!
A short 8 bars each, session, showing of Destruct and Ideology's confident style. A good start, but lacks that little extra touch to make it that bangin’ intro.

2. Existence
Existence is also a sample based production
It’s starts hard hittin’ and stays that way! With such lines as:
- «Forget the crack, cause the track epedemic infecting the rap game with no giving antiseptic»
- «You've got no hope spitting rap tales like fu**in fairy's»
It's a short sequence, that leaves you wanting to play it once more.
Specially the cuts to the end really putting that raw feeling to the track.
DJ LimeGreen has got a vintage style to his Cuts, but still keeping it 2012!
Destruct and Ideology go toe to toe, really showing of both their lyrical skills and when it comes to the rhyme pattern on this track. I think they’ve found the style that fits them really well as a duo.
One of my favorites of’ve this release.

Being the westcoast artists that they are I was expecting something with that Westcoast Bounce.
The title track

3. "The I.D."
This track just has that type of feeling, from the slap bass, to the well controled multi syllables.
A production that shows Vherbal’s well rounded skills both as being a versatile producer and living up to his name.
«Savage and A Gentleman, Firefight veteran, laughing at these kids when they talk shit and speak out
Puffin up their chest like they hold in a weed cloud, bumpin at the guns till they get shot and bleed out
Beggin for they moms, Sayin’ I dont wanna leave now. The world is a dirty place I’m just trying to Clean house.»
Both vocal prescense, switch ups and finish on this track is crazy!
My favorite track on this EP!

4. "Smarten up"
This sounds more like a mid nineties new york track with a hint of 2012.
A gem of a sample, with a early nineties / mid nineties Rhyming scheme and storytelling feeling, this track could place you in 1995, with a walkman and give you that headnod keep you noddin till 2012. Lyrically well done. But mostly impressed by Vherbals work on this beat. That flanger on the intro before the drop, is a typical, but when the beat drop it’s all forgotten.
Classic shit!

5. "Find A Way"
Rachel Mintz's nice voice with a perfect hint of vulnerability. (This is Rachel Mintz debut in the genre of Hip Hop)
Whilst this is in my opinion the best verse Ideology did on this EP.
It sounds like he's in his right element, and really touches both the topic and spits knowledge.
When it comes to the message of the song this is that one message. Find your way.
The I.D! Identify yourselfs in other peoples experience and stories.
Quote:
«They dont want us to think, they want us to follow beliefs»

6. "What It Use To Be"
A perfect ending, ending chaoticly as it started of.
Destruct and Ideology prove that they deserve to be taken seriously as both artists and as a duo.
I hope that the next release won’t take three years to get.
But that they put the same hunger in to it as they did this one.
All in all:
I think the intensity of the album is good, what I felt lacked was a more hard hitting intro.
If you break it down song by song this is better than a lot of albums of way more known artists.

I think that working together some more they’d appear better as a duo, and that on some parts they appear very well as solo artists doing a collabo.
Looking forward to hearing more from both Vherbal, Destruct & Ideology.
